Salt Lake City, UT  DNF broken pwr steering line
July 4 was a race at a fantastic track in Salt Lake City, UT; Rocky Mountain Raceways. It's a Vegas size 3/8 and darn near identical track. The facility includes a drag strip and brand new BMX or motor cross track and the stands hold 7,000 which is usually sold out for the July 4 show because it includs a fireworks show. The staff is Class A and friendly. Pit passes just $22. The heat, well... HOT until the rains, thunder and lightning came in. During practice the storm was sitting at the bottom of the mountains, very black but a nice distance away and the wind was blowing hard in that direction. Then when practice was done they switched direction 180 degrees and brought that storm right on top of us and the winds went still and the down pour sat on top of us for 1 1/2 hours.

We had to skip qualifying but the facility has 2 jet driers and a good eye for what the weather patterns are so by the time the drops stopped the track was dry and the show went on. Spectators waited in the stands and their cars for  an invitation to come back in. The grid was determined by practice times putting us 15 in the start. Supermods had 18 entries. After really struggling all day on set-up, James and Martin finally got it figured out for the main event. Martin has in-car adjustments for each spring that he had just started adjusting for fine tuning and had passed about 5 cars so he was getting the hang of it when another car he was passing came down on him ending the night for us. Our team thinks he had a top 5 car and since it was a 75 lap main there's a good chance that's where he was going. But we'll never know... The average speed for the top car was 103 with top speeds of about 160 mph.
